A THOUSAND POINTS OF ... SOMETHING

251.

FYI I won't be writing much till my laptop returns from its motherboard-replacement vacation to California.

So has anyone else noted the irony of the fact that King Bush the Former made his thousand points of light speech (in which he promised to help the poor) in the fucking Superdome?

Anyway. here's a poem:

THINGS
by Liel Muller

What happened is, we grew lonely
living among the things,
so we gave the clock a face,
the chair a back,
the table four stout legs
which will never suffer fatigue.

We fitted our shoes with tongues
as smooth as our own
and hung tongues inside bells
so we could listen
to their emotional language,

and because we loved graceful profiles
the pitcher received a lip,
the bottle a long, slender neck.

Even what was beyond us
was recast in our image:
we gave the country a heart,
the storm an eye,
the cave a mouth
so we could pass into safely.

BEST OF SPAM: Subj: Order a Ph.D! TEXT: Do you want a University Degree without studying? An Income that starts off high? The 0pportunity to just get in the door? We can help. We have a LEGAL Offshore University that issues valid Degree's in any subject for a small fee. (no word on their ability to teach the proper use of apostrophes.)

SANG IN SHOWER: "Bourgeois Blues" ("White folks in Washington they know how, throw a colored man a nickel just to see him bow...")

LISTENING TO: Lou Reed/John Cale's Songs for Drella (compilations for Andy Warhol)

READING: productivity figures for month of August (sigh)
