POET BEATINGS AND FIGHTING INJUSTICE

308.

Consider for a moment the irony of the fact that Yahoos lead headline today is
The Trumps choose a name for their baby boy
but only one major US paper has even mentioned that Iranian security forces just brutally attacked a peaceful group of feminists gathered together for International Womens Day.

These women were supporting human rights and peace yet were ambushed by truckloads of state-authorized thugs who dumped garbage on their heads and kicked and baton-whipped themand the victims included the elderly and nearly blind poet Simin Behbehani (who says the purpose of my poetry is to fight injustice"). Security forces also filmed and photographed these women for intimidation purposes and so that they can interrogate them later.

Meanwhile, in Iraq, the Grand Ayatollah Ali as-Sistani issued a death fatwa against queers and called for us to be killed in the worst, most severe way.

(Yet some people say there are no legitimate reasons for hate crimes laws to exist in this world.)

This story makes me want to whip out my handy Sears vise grips and wrench the Grand Ayatollah's scrotum about in the worst, most severe way.

Today I cooked and delivered to Tree some homemade avgolemono soup and she sent a message saying that it's one of the first meal she has been able to enjoy without nausea.

My BFF Filmgrrl and I also had a long talk. She has apparently been worried about me because I had that bad spell last summer and so is emailing and calling often, which is really sweet of her.

This also means that I got to hear all about a new film that shes shooting and the new drawings she's been working on and to share her excitement over the fact that these projects are finally all coming together now that shes figured out that the metaphor of Prometheus says exactly what she wants to say in her film.

She had not heard the phrase new day, new liver yet either, so I got to share that little gem her too.

Were going to meet in NYC late next month to hang out and go to galleries and the museums. Will arrive early enough to catch a Beescroft show, which typically includes live naked female modelsthese shows are really something to see. Its at Dietch Projects so check it out if that appeals to you.

Unfortunately, since were both flying, we wont have our guitars, which will be just plain weird.

Also found out that my good friend/mentor Shakespeare and her partner arrive on Monday and are staying with me. Well be at the cancer center all day Tuesday, making sure that her breast cancer is still in remission.

Id really like to have those remaining bits of wallpaper scraped off the downstairs bathroom walls and have them painted before they arrive, but well see if this desire wins out over my desire to watch the NCAA basketball tourney.

Okay, I'm off to chorus rehearsal, then heading out with some singers to watch the Duke game. This should be a fun evening.

SANG IN SHOWER: No, but I did condition my hair.

READING: Hiss and Tells latest blog post about how much she loves boobs. (Me too, Hiss.)

LISTENING TO: Kasey Chambers Falling Into You

BEST OF SPAM: Want your love back?
