pantoum's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I NEED A HERO, IM HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO TILL THE MORNING LIGHT .. 293. Feeling more peaceful than is typical at two in the afternoon because I stayed home this morning so I could go to the university near my home and hear my brilliant friend Zulu read at lunch. The place was packed and she was, as always, brilliant and charming. I am so proud of her and the good work shes doing.Several of my friends remain aghast that Zulu and I never got together and, occasionally, Im surprised by this too because, in many ways, we look like we'd make a charming butch/femme couple. But I was married and then she was married and well, the timing just never worked out and anyway, we make much better friends who recognize each others gorgeousness through thick or thin. Shes someone I can talk with about anything (and have) and someone I do talk with about writing on a regular basis. Slept till 8:30, then set the clock for 11 and slept even more. Wow. That was decadent! And wow did I need to catch up. Im going to include a long excerpt from Molly Ivinss Why Hilary Wont Save Us, posted on Alternet on1.23.2006 but, first, can you believe that I actually heard an advertisement for a toddler spa where your toddler can get a designer haircut and manicure? Throw the damn rugrats outside so they can get their hands dirty exploring this big world and, maybe, learn to love it enough to help us stop destroying it. I mean, come on, if they cant get their hands dirty when theyre toddlers, what hope do they have? Anyway, heres Molly. It was just too good not to paste here: The recent death of Gene McCarthy reminded me of a lesson I spent a long, long time unlearning, so now I have to relearn it. It's about political courage and heroes, and when a country is desperate for leadership. There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief. 5:27 p.m. - 2006-01-25 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
