pantoum's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CASSSH-YUL Today Tree gave me grief about dating multiple woman simultaneously (which, by the way, I don't consider myself doing; instead, I believe that—with the exception of my open whatever-it-was with Buzzcut—several women and I have been checking each other out to determine if we might be interested in dating each other). "Lookit," said O. "It is 2005 and I have slept with three—count them: three—women since 1990 (two long-term relationships will do that to you) and you are one of them, so don't even talk to me about this." I guess my philosophy is that, if someone piques my interest, then why not have a cup of coffee with her and see if there's a mutual spark of interest? I like women, after all, so chances are we'll at least have an enjoyable conversation. Meanwhile, I know how picky I am about who gets that much of my time and so am very aware that I am likely to just remain friends with the women I meet. That's cool too though. Or maybe we'll have one of those—um, what was that word again? Yes, I got it now—cassssshual and mutually beneficial sexual relationships that didn't seem to be an issue in DC. (What happened?) Tree says women were hitting on me at the recent L Word social because I am giving off an I'm-not-interested-in-being-in-a-relationship vibe. "Women can read that," she says.
