REPATRIATING THE MONEY

Just back from a wonderful long weekend in the mountains, where the temperature dropped into the thirties. Pottergrrl and I attended the women's chorus concert and now I want to know why my chorus has a plain old boring board of directors while this chorus has a Wise Woman Counsel.
I want to be on a wise woman counsel (!) and plan to recommend this name change at the next board meeting.
Nice turnout. Nice sampling of the women�s community. And nice auction (which included a piece of Pottergrrl�s art). They are much more of an old-hippie singalong-style chorus than we are (although this was our previous director�s style) and their songs are not very complex. Still, a good concert and a fun time and I left with good ideas for my own chorus.
In other news, it�s getting harder and harder to leave the peaceful mountains. Part of me is so tired of how stressed my current job leaves me and of all of its unsolvable frustrations and that part of me feels my blood pressure drop in the mountains, where I actually manage to sleep (although I realize this has a lot to do with being with Pottergrrl).
Nevertheless, sometimes I get in my car at 5 AM and start driving to work and I think, you know, that is the LAST place I want to be, and I tick off all the problems that will be awaiting me when I arrive, and I ask myself what would happen if I left a job at the top of my field for one that pays less money and is less prestigious, but allows me to live a better life, with less stress and more time to devote to my writing and art? And the dreamer part of me wonders just how much I would have to publish to apply to teach up there.
Alas, none of that is even an option until July 2006, when I�m vested. And, unless I sell my house, I must make my current salary (although I could live in the mountains and rent my place out and be okay, unless it sits empty for some time).
Anyway, I am just feeling very stressed right now and leave work emotionally and mentally and physically exhausted and this is wearing on me ... especially when I have to work freelance to make ends meet right now.
