FAMILY CIRCUS

Just got word from my older sister that she has a huge ovarian cyst and needs a hysterectomy.

She and her husband just left with their three teenagers for a three-week camping trip to the Golden Gate Bridge though, so she won't be having it till mid-July.

She caught me up on my family of origin too, since I try to stay as far away as possible.

Looks like my eight-years-younger sister Glittergrrl will be going into the Army on July 6, since she passed her physical exam—well, except that they are still checking out her knee X-ray. I'm sure that won't keep them from sending her warm body to Iraq though.

Jeeeeeebus the situations poverty can get you into!!!!

And since we are reporting on my sibs, my littlest little brother and his fiancé are in the midst of moving into the house they just bought together and their wedding is set for August 14.

(He is a bike racer and fire fighter who plays in a popular local band; she is a way-cool graduate art student. And they are perfect for each other.

Meanwhile, my older little brother and his wife are in foreclosure.

This is the first I've heard of them having financial troubles, but they are big-time partiers, so I fear they spent too much money on snort and not enough on their mortgage.

This brother who was in a horrific motorcycle accident in high school and spent months in a trauma unit after he was stable enough to be helicoptered to another hospital.

He finally walked out with a permanently atrophied leg, collapsed butt cheek, a scar from his neck to his pubs, a shunt in his jugular (from the fifth time he went into cardiac arrest—this time because of blood clots in his lungs)‚ and a foot that drops uncontrollably if he does not wear a plastic insert in his shoe to hold it up.

He never returned to high school and paints houses for a living, which worries me greatly because he is the last person who should be on a ladder.

Meanwhile, my crazy little sister Glittergrrl told her daughter that I am taking her and my mother to Carowinds—an expensive amusement park— then wrote to inform me of this fact.

(She told my sister Penelope this too—which is how I found out about this, since Penelope told me that we would have to reschedule our amusement park excursion [that I knew nothing about] because of her looming surgery.)

Nice of Glittergrrl to inform me of what I'm doing with my money, huh? I guess it's good to at least catch up on everyone and confirm that we are still fucked up ... good to know Lad changed his wedding date too, since my family always forgets to tell me something major like that.

To be fair though, I have divorced myself from their lives so much that they may just forget about me until one of them needs to borrow money.

Meanwhile, one of the editors who works for me wound up in the hospital over the weekend with a spot on her liver that they need to check out with an MRI.

This means that four of the fourteen people who work in the production department that I supervise are now out indefinitely. (And then there's the designer whose son is in and out of institutions who asks to take days off with little notice in order to deal with family crises.)

Gawd! Publishing must attract people with drama in their families!

And speaking of the editors, I will probably not update my blog tomorrow because I decided to get up early and drive 2.5 hours to an editor's mom's funeral in the mountains. I'll go to the service, maybe grab something to eat, and then drive back home, since I can't afford time off work right now.

Got my oil changed, my tires rotated, and my fluids checked a little while ago, so am good to go.

See ya.
