SOWING MY WILD (G)OATS?

171.

(Sunday • June 5, 2005 • 10 PM) High nineties today with very high humidity—a good day to float in a pool but not such a good one for being out and about. Went out for a decaf (sigh) latte and to check e-mail and upload pictures, then called to inviteComputergrrl over for brunch. And mmm, it was tasty. I made fresh tarragon omelets with applewood smoked bacon and an interesting cheddar with horseradish in it; pan-fried potatoes with fresh garlic, yellow onion, fresh chives, rosemary, paprika, Greek salt, and a little olive oil; and some breakfast sausage. Very tasty indeed.

Hung out a bit on the deck then drove out to a farm she'd never been to, where we took many, many pictures of cows and goats and folk art and the assorted gardens and whirligigs and other sculptures there. Computergrrl ran out of energy pretty quickly though, poor baby—man, I feel so bad for her; this mono is really wiping her out, even after two weeks. It must be about to drive her crazy too since she's so active.

Didn't want to go home after I dropped her off because my neighborhood had a block party this afternoon, so I went to the gardens and sat by the water instead, took pictures, and wished I had a book with me. (I don't do idle well.) Was such a sweaty blob by that point that I figured I ought to do some real exercise now that I'm feeling a little better, and so went to campus and walked the track. Saw two muscular men in skirts and tank tops and a gorgeous woman with way-cool cat glasses who blatantly checked me out. She literally stopped in the middle of the track as I walked toward her—musta been my bright orange belt and bowling shoes!—put her hands on her hips, looked me up and down in this really obvious way, then said "Well hey there" when I reached her. Mmm.

She got a big grin outta me, too, let me tell ya. Sweet.

Wish I weren't in such a No Trespassing place right now. And wish I'd flirted back with this quirky little cutie who was wearing a half slip and half-not-there shirt.

Slips for skirts and men in skirts—a dance troupe is obviously in town.

Computergrrl said we're the topic of much chorus gossip because everyone thinks we're dating. Amusing. It did occur to me as I was walking that I was unthoughtful when I said "don't they understand that people can just be friends?" I really should have asked her "so, do you consider us just friends?"

Tried to google the lambda literary awards to see what poetry books won, but can't find any information.

Was also thinking enough time may have passed for me to be friends with Buzzcut again, then thought, oh hell, I was the one doing most of the work so why bother?

All right. gotta move one more load of laundry into the dryer and really want to take a nice bubble bath before crawling onto my nice clean sheets, so enough for now.

(Monday morning) You know, I like my winter clothes much better than my summer clothes, but broke down after the humid high-nineties weather we had this weekend and pulled out a beige linen suit and am wearing a turquoise tee under it.

Got another e-mail from the Ginger today. Here's what I suspect: Dickboy did not remember that it was her recently deceased mom's birthday—or brushed the day off as nothing—and this reminded her of the fact that she is now with a guy who didn't even bother to go to her mom's funeral, even though he had nothing planned for that day except, I guess, to sit on his ass and role-play fantasy games with the other sit-on-their-asses D&D guys.

Or maybe he's out of town or their sex life is already boring. I mean, she's writing the thing at 10:30 on a Saturday night!

Anyway, here's what she wrote:

Subj: weird e-mail
I know we're not really on speaking terms right now, but if you missed This American Life on NPR today, I recommend you try to catch the rerun or download it from audible.com. You'd really enjoy it. It's about the religious right in America.
